About the Game
Skin of the Swarm is a web-based, 2D, action game aimed for all audiences.
In Skin of the Swarm, Infiltrate a termite nest as a hungry Blowfly Larvae. Consume lesser insects and conquer your way up the food chain, maintaining a facade of a lowly Termite grunt. Enhance your consumption and swiftness to take down the Termite Queen, before you become detected and compromised.
Contribution
I was lead developer for this project, heading up mechanics, upgrades and enemies. My responsibility was to ensure everything was working as intended.
My contributions included:
- Enemy Pathfinding: ensuring enemies had their own movement and detected the player when needed.
- Merchant Upgrades: Ensuring that the player can increase in size, strength and speed.
- Audio: I used BeepBox to create the synth-sounding soundtrack for the menu, main game and merchant screen.
This project was submission for Global Games Jam 2026 under the theme of "Mask."
The Team
The team consisted of three people, myself included.
What I learned
This project taught me the importance of going out of your comfort zone. I opted to learn GDevelop for this Game Jam, as my experience with making strictly 2D games was relatively new. I managed to get used to the software quite quickly, in turn being able to contribute to a project that I am thoroughly proud of.
