About the Game
Private Eyes is a First Person deduction game aimed for all audiences.
In Private Eyes, the player is tasked to detect a deviant who is rebelling against the totalitarian empire inside a block of flats. This widget driven experience tests the player's deduction skills to examine the environment and figure out who is a rebel in disguise.
This project was in collaboration with Kat Jokubynaite.
What I Contributed
I was the lead developer on this project, with Kat creating all the UI and Character Sprites to be used in game. My list of contributions included:
- A Monitor switching system, with the player being able to select a camera and transitioning into the adjacent environments and back to a Hub view.
- Widget animations, to imitate a camera shutter opening and closing & both endings to the prototype.
- A retro VHS & Cel-Shaded Filter.
- Character Spline pathing, so the 2D sprites can move around their respective environment.
What I Learned
The importance of project scope. Kat and I had quite an ambitious vision for this project, but with the limited project time we had to scale down quite considerably so we could deliver a product of quality. Due to this, some features such as being able to listen to the audio of resident's houses as well as multiple levels had to be scrapped, leaving the single level prototype available here.
