What we're doing, how we're doing it and why we're doing it
Intent: To explore the fundamentals of 3D animation & keyframing to develop skills needed to create your own short animation.
Implementation: Through investigation and practical development.
Impact: Software skills development, utilising a 3D software and rendering processes.
Soft Skills: Time management, adaptability, creativity, problem solving, attention to detail.
Industry: Animating, Keyframing, Rigging, Posing & Rendering
Context
You'll be Posing, Keyframing & Animating a pre-rigged 3D model in Blender.
Your Animation must:
- Be manually posed, keyframed and animated.
- Be recorded and put on your website.
Investigation/Discussion
On your Google Sites:
- What are some interesting things you notice about these animations?
- Why does that particular element stand out?
- Do you think this type of animation could feel the same/be emulated in 2D?
- Why? Why not?
1. Where's North from here?
What do I do?
- Download your Gorillaz of choice from the Google Drive and an instrument of your choice. Make sure you have everything in each folder which includes:
1. The .blend file of the rigged character & FBX file of the Instrument
2. The textures in PNG format (there should be 3)
Then open the .blend file in Blender.
2. Come on, come on, come on (Pose Frame)
What do I do?
- Watch the video on how to pose in Blender.
- Get familiar with how each bone interacts with one another, test the limits!
- Pose your character.
On your Google Sites:
- Document development of your posing.
- Reflect on your progress (How are you finding it? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Why?)
3. Get the coooool, get the cool animation
What do I do?
- Watch the video on how to keyframe and animate in Blender.
- Get familiar with the process, start small. Then work towards something larger!
On your Google Sites:
- Document development of your animation and keyframing.
- Reflect on your progress (How are you finding it? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Why?)
4. Superfast Superfast, Peer Review. Just in time for hand in.
What do I do?
Once you've got your animation, screen record it using OBS or similar software and upload it onto your site.
Then...
Give feedback to your peers, what do you like about their animation? What do you think they could do to improve?
On your Google Sites:
- Peer Reflection
Then...
DARE (To stretch)
Now go onto Sketchfab and find your own model, try your hand at manually rigging it and posing/animating the model.
Then...
Look into IK Rigging:
- What is it?
- How is it used?
- Why would it be used over manual posing?
Oh Flimsy Steve... (Plenary)
What do I do?
- Get onto Socrative and join the room.
- Answer the questions to the best of your ability.
